Genre Research

The genre of which our film is is Drama. Drama is a genre which originated from the Greek word for 'Action'. Drama films shows people when they're at their best, when they're at their worst, and it shows everything in between The sub-genre of Drama we are basing our film on is Romantic Drama. A film of the same genre of ours is Titanic which was written, co-produced and edited by James Cameron. The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures in the USA and was internationally distributed by 20th Century Fox. Our film compares to Titanic in the fact that it involves two close lovers and one eventually dies. The thing that makes our film similar to Titanic is that when the respective character dies, the other cannot get over the death and is full of sorrow. Titanic is also similar to our film in the respect that it is the main male character that dies, which is a similar theme to many romantic and drama films. The YouTube link for the trailer for Titanic is posted below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCy5WQ9S4c0

I also found an A2 5 minute short film of the same drama genre of our film on YouTube titled 'A Smile And A Song'. This film is like ours in the fact that someone has lost someone close to them that they love. A father visits a church and starts playing the piano in hope of remembering his daughter as he can't forget about her. This is similar to ours because Claire can't forget about Ciaran. The link for the film on YouTube can be seen below.

Internet Page Advertising

Since I finished my research on Viral advertising, I have seen that a lot of big companies use various internet sites to advertise their films. Popular sites such as Facebook and Twitter are at the front of popular websites to advertise on. This involves both advertising from their OWN actual Twitter or Facebook page, or paying the social networkingsite money to advertise on the side of the internet page. Inthe modern day, Millions of people use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and therefore this is a massive base for people and a brilliant place for companies to advertise if it is done effectively.

To the right is a screenshot of Universal Pictures official twitter account writing a tweet in Early October about trailers for films which are upcoming from their company.
This tweet is intended for people who are following them to look at and gain information about the trailers and release date of the upcoming films. This can also act like a small version of a viral ad because people who followed 'UniversalPics' on twitter can 'ReTweet' this particular tweet so people who are following themcan also see it. They may alsotweet this tweet and so on. As well as having an official account on twitter, you can have promoted tweets and trends which will make the companies tweet appear to a wider audience. A 'Trend' is what people in certain areas are talking about in their tweets, the most popular trends will appear on the Twitter homepage so everyone can see it. A 'promoted Trend' will mean that the trend which the company, charity or person has started will mean the trend will be at the top of the trend list so everyone can see it. Twitter also gives you the option to change your location so you can see the 'trends' in different locations, if a trend is promoted, it will appear as the top and most popular trend in every location in the United Kingdom.

Below are the screenshots for Twitter page where you can make an apply for an advertised tweet, trend or even account. They all have the aim of broadening their audience and generally their fan base. If this promoted service was done effectively and successfully, it is a very clever way of finding new fans for the films as the first part of anyone buying tickets to see a film is informing them that the film is being released soon. The Screenshot on the right is the Trends section on the Twitter homepage for United Kingdom. There is no promoted or advertised trends at the moment, as they are signified and showed to be promoted ones. This has a bigger effect with bigger companies who have a wider catchment area and more followers. As I have previously touched on, bigger companies do have twitter to advertise their films and give information out on twitter, and it is quite effective to urge people to go and see the film aswell as giving information out about the film itself, the company and films it may also release in the future.

There is also the same type of sponsored links on Facebook and they work the same way to Twitter but in just they are advertisement space on the side which companies buy and give money to Facebook to advertise there and gives a link to the proper companies website where you can purchase their product, this also makes the brand a more popular and well-known name which in return makes their money they paid to advertise their product or company worth-while. Below is a screenshot of how the advertisements work on Facebook. The amount of people who like these pages can be in the hundreds of thousands and even millions which proves that Social networking sites have a massive catchment area, especially for younger people and the student population.

Music Copyright research

'I looked into this issue re. audio on my teaching website a couple of years ago. I was awaiting the publication of a collection of violin/piano arrangements and wanted to use my recordings of the pieces on my site to promote the books. I read up on the subject on the ASCAP website, and from what I can gather, if you are using an audio of an arrangement or cover, not the original track, you don't need permission. Circulating sheet music of your arrangement without copyright permission, however, is illegal.'

This is a quote from a woman in the UK who has contacted harryfox.com which handle copyrighted music and went onto the ASCAP website which is all about the laws of copyright in everything from music to film. The law of copyrighted music states that as long as you are not using the music as a profitable use of media and are crediting the original artist or are making a cover of the music, you are not breaking any copyright laws.

Ending Music Research

We have decided that the ending of our movie is going to be very emotional so the song we have chosen is not suitable for the end scene but is for the movie. At the end of the movie we are going to use a powerful piano piece that will give a better sense of emotion and pain.

This is a piano cover of Linkin Park's In The End. the pace and key of this piano piece is very effective and would work well within our ending scene of our movie.

This is a cover of Lisa Miskovsky's Still Alive. This is also a very good song possibility because of the pace and effectivenes of the piano piece.

Viral Advert research for films

iral advertising is a massive part in modern day advertising for films. If done well, it can create a massive domino-like advertisingthat is passed on by many people and creates a wave of hype and excitement for the film. It also has very little cost unlike advertising on the television or radio. A popular form as viral advertising is creating a picture or video which the public can change to put their face or a friends face on, they then send this on to a friend and the film gets advertised further. The friend then sends the same video on, or puts another friends face on the video or picture and so on.

The picture on the right is a basic outline on how a viral marketing E-mail
aims to work and how it can spread about from just one E-mail from one person to another.

A notable film which tries to get successful advertisement from using viral advertising is 2008 British Film 'Shifty' which was directed by Eran Creevy. The Viral advertising that it used was an E-mail which allowed someone to put a picture of a friend on a picture that is staged to look like it's from the police and has caught the person doing a drug deal. It is supposed to trick the reader into thinking it is from the police and they have been caught. 'Shifty' is about a drug deal so it is related to the film and advertises it well. Although, this viral advertisement later got banned, this gave the film more publicity, although primarily it was bad publicity, it advertised and made the film more well known to the public so in many ways it was good. Also, any publicity is good publicity is good a lot of the time for films.

Full feature Hollywood films don't just use advertisement on TVs and radios either. A lot of advertisement is now on the internet, mostly on the film's own website or YouTube. A good example of how big companies use this is 2008 film The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan. On the Dark Knight's website, it uses space to advertise the blu-ray dvd and gives a link to a online shop where the public can buy the DVD. This is not an advertisement which we go from person to person in a domino effect like the 'Shifty' one will although it is a very simple way of giving an easy option to the public so they can purchase the film with little effort or stress. It also gives an option at the bottom of the screen saying 'Answer the Bat Signal'
This is the particular prank which Shifty used in an E-mail to the left which allowed users to put a picture of a friend on it. This created a wave of publicity through the internet from the public passing this on.

which is getting people to sign up for updates on the film so the producers and companies send E-mails to the public who signed up giving updates and information about the film and perhaps some offers for future films which the company produces. This may not be a massive thing or take a massive amount of effort, but the first part to getting fans and the public to see your music is to remind them about when the film is being released will get people interested and keep them interested until the release
date.

A large part of Viral ads is also videos which can be shared from one person to another. The most popular and well-known viral ad video is by 'Blend-tec'. This basically
features a man putting something, possibly a product new on the market or something expensive into a blender to 'see if it blends'. The screenshot on the right shows Blend-tec putting an Apple iPad in a blender. This is an effective viral ad campaign as the Apple iPad was released not far before this video was posted. Many people find these videos funny and share them to other people. People also post them to their social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. The Blend-tec campaign is a perfect example of how viral ads are designed to work as many people talk about the adverts and share them to their friends. It also has a clear target audience in each one of their videos, and as they have done hundreds of videos featuring different things and they all have different target audiences. The way it is campaigned is also a major reason why it makes it successful as a lot of the new products which come on the market, particularly electronic products, blend-tec do a new version of 'Will it Blend?' and post it on YouTube. This is the link to the iPad version of 'Will it Blend?': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko

Title sequence research

To gain further knowledge on title sequences to make one of greater quality for our short film, we have been looking and researching title sequences from short and full feature films to see what film makers go for and what they do to make them successful. We also looked at title sequences from films which are similar to our short films and ones which aren't really similar in terms of genre or length.

The first one we looked at is 'Batman' which was produced in 1989. Although this is a very simple opening title sequence, it is really effective and goes hand-in-hand with the type of film which is dramatic and full of excitement. This title sequence is also brilliant as it is tense and adds excitement to the audience as they wait for the film to start. We want to take this into our opening title sequence and add tension to ours as the audience wait for the film to start. It also doesn't give anything away in the opening title sequence which we want in ours. In addition, the Batman video features the perfect music for this particular title sequence and we need to find the perfect music which will suit our title sequence if we are to do one similar to this. Another point is that this title sequence is very dark and you can't see what is happening and where the camera is which makes the audience more eager and excited for the film to start. The link to this video on youtube is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l11BPzYehUE

The Next film opening sequence we looked at was 'Terminator Salvation' which was produced in 2009 by Warner Brothers. This film is more of an action film although the opening title sequence fits the aims of our title sequence and what we want it to be like. It is really dark at the opening scene and the music is slow and is used to build up to the film and gives out a sort of anticipation to the audience without giving too much away. This is a key point we want to take into our opening scene in our film. Although it must be remembered that this Terminator film is the 4th in the series, so a lot of the audience will have seen the previous films and will know a lot about the films and what they involved, so the directors don't need to give much away in the opening scene. The writing is also suitable for the opening scene as it is slow-running and is it time with the music and the overall scene, which is dark and looks to be moving across various places associated with the film.

Character Costumes - Nick Cooper (Liam Fountain)

Nick will wear the same clothes all the time throughout his appearances in the film. This is because he is only in for a short amount of time. He is a very fashionable kid and takes pride in his appearance. He is judged as mainstream by the choice of clothes he wears but he likes to think he's the trend-setter. We feel the clothes chosen for Nick reflect him as a person.

Indigo hoodie (Topman) - As Nick is a bit of a plain lad we felt that a plain hoodie would fit his character well. The colour contrasts well with the rest of the clothes he wears.

Black skinny jeans (Topman) - As well as being a bit plain he likes to think he's a bit of an indie kid so we felt that skinny jeans would be the perfect trouser wear for him. The colour black also fits in brilliantly with the rest of his costume and suits him down to the ground.

Blue fairisle jumper (Topman) - We felt this jumper is the best one for Nick as these kind of jumpers are thought to be mainstream. The different shades of blue match the hoodie well and really make Nick look the part.

Hi-top Converse (Schuh) - The chosen footwear for Nick are also considered very 'mainstream' so these are a great choice for him. The colour of white with black jeans makes them stand out a lot.

Character Costumes - Tom Johnson (Nathan Denman)

Walking over to Claire - Same as before

Same costume throughout the rest of his appearance in the movie

Character Costumes - Claire Johnson (Bethany Vaines)

Character Costumes - Ciaran Farley (Kieran Lawless)

Ciaran is a lad who likes his designer clothes and always has to be seen with the latest brand names. He'll pay eccentric amounts of money just to have a 'name'. The clothes we picked for Ciaran reflect how much he loves designer clothes.

In bedroom - Voi Jeans (black) - We picked these as they are a popular brand and they also cost a lot, therefore reflecting the kind of clothes the character likes to wear.

Then enters bathroom to get changed - Voi jeans (black), Black checkered shirt (Topman)

Just before leaving house adds - Nike Hi Tops and Body warmer

Same costume throughout the rest of his appearance in the movie

Shooting Script

Shot 1: A split screen of Ciaran and Claire talking on the phone.

Shot 2: The split screen continues onto here and shows them finishing the conversation.

Shot 3: Close up of both characters pressing the 'end phonecall' button on their phones.

Shot 4: Both characters begin to get ready and turn the radio on. The music is diegetic so both the audience and characters can hear it.

Shot 5: They both turn off the radio and leave their bedrooms.

Shot 6: Leave the house at the same times.

Shot 7: Camera follows both characters on their journeys. First shot of journeys is walking down to the end of their respective streets.

Shot 8: The second shot of them on the journey shows how similar they are to each other. E.g. Holding onto railings as they go past, etc.

Shot 9: The camera flicks from split screen to full screen and just a mid-shot of Ciaran having a conversation with Nick.

Shot 10: This is a shot of Claire walking into the flower shop to purchase flowers

Addition To The Story

After reading the script we realised that when Claire is on the Phone she can't be talking to Ciaran as he is dead so what we have decided to do is add an extra scene on to the end of the film to explain who she is talking to. So what we have decided to do is add another character, we have added Claire's brother into the film. The scene will show the real phone call between Claire and her brother. After the flash back to the conversation we will see Claire's brother walking over to her and having a conversation as she places down the flowers. We believe that this will make it easier for the audience as it explains many things.

Genre Research

Our short film genre is a psychological drama and in preparation for creating and then filming our film, we are researching other short films with the same genre. Our film in a way is also linked to a romantic drama.

The first film we are looking at and researching is 2004 film 'Crash'. It was directed by Paul Haggis and distributed by LionsGate films. There is one scene from the film Crash with a Mexican man and a Persian man. The Mexican guy went to the Persian's store to fix the lock on his door. The lock was fixed but the problem was with the door. the Mexican guy told the Persian man but as his English isn't very good he didn't understand and kept telling the Mexican guy to fix the lock. After arguing the Mexican guy leaves and the Persian mans store gets broken into and smashed up. The Persian man then goes for revenge on the Mexican man and tries to shoot him. Unfortunately the Mexicans Daughter jumps up at her Dad as the Persian man shoots so he shoots her instead. Miraculously the girl is ok without a scratch on her which then makes the Persian man believe she is her guardian angel which has the same kind of effect as our film as Claire can't move on from the death of Ciaran and sees him as her guardian angel. The film also then goes into slow-motion which we want to replicate to show the emotion between the two people. We can to take inspiration from this film in our short film because it does well to really highlight the emotion between the two characters

The video can't be embedded due to copyright but here is the link to watch the video: http://youtube/d08vkNAJunY

The next film we looked at is 1997 film 'Titanic' This is similar to our film because it has two main characters, the same as ours. They are also in love, which again is similar to our film. Towards the end of the film, the main male character in the film (portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio) dies after the cruise ship Titanic sinks. Rose (the female character played by Kate Winslet) is Jack's lover and witnesses him die in this scene. The Director James Cameron wants to capture the emotion and disaster in this scene, we want to take inspiration from this film as well as Cameron uses several different ways to show emotion in this film. Quite like the first film we looked at, the two films with the same genre have a big impact scene on the film right at the end, In Titanic it has someone dying after the ship crashes. This is also similar to ours as the male character in our short film also dies although, you can't see the Ciaran die in our film it has a similar effect on Claire as she is Heartbroken from the death of Ciaran in our short film.

Logo Idea 1

This is our first logo Idea. I chose this logo because it shows an image of a man stood next to a woman. It is kind of like the final shot in out film which shows a man stood next to a woman. I feel like this logo reflects our film in that way and in a way bonds with it. I like the colours as they are very basic and keep with the feel of the genre of our film, which is romantic drama. Unlike bright and various colours, which would be more appropriate for a comedy film.

Music Research 3

This is a song that is also modern which ties into the modernness of our film. Although it is modern and fits with that aspect of our movie we are slightly unsure if it will fit into our movie as a whole.

Theoretical film poster research

To advertise our short film, we are going to create an A3 sized poster as a source of advertisement and giving the viewers an idea into what the short films about. Although, the posters we will be looking at are full length film posters and ours is only a short one so we will need to take inspiration from these but not try to make them too similar as ours is much shorter.

The first film poster we looked at is 2010 film Inception. We like this poster as it is interesting to look at, features the main character in the film (which is played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and also shows his name. The poster also gives an idea in to the background of the film, for example where it is set. This is showing it is in a big city with big skyscrapers but not showing which one exactly, also as he is stood in water in the middle of this city, it makes it intriguing and tempts you to go to the cinema and watch it. Finally, another little, although effective aspect of this film poster that we like is the caption for the film which states 'Your mind is the scene of the crime.' Again, this gives a little idea into the plot of the film although not giving it away too much so the audience wants to go watch it.

Although the colours in this posters aren't particularly bright or eye-catching in them terms, what it gives you is that the colours that have been used work well together which gives it a sharp appearance. The composition of the films means that there is one person in a long shot of him. This means that the director is obviously going to make the main character in the film very important and make him stand out in the poster, if they have too many bright colours to try to make the film overly eye-catching, it will ruin the whole outlook of the film and take attention away from the main character. The character is also related to the film as he is the person that the plot revolves around.

The Text and font in this poster also matches it really well and doesn't try to over-do the effects it has. It is also sharp and bold which fits in well with where it is located just under the long shot of the person. Also as the man is stood up, it is natural to look down at his feet to see where he is standing, as you do you will see he is stood on water in the middle of a big city. Then you naturally stop the name of the film.

The second one we have been looking at is 1994 Film 'The Shawshank Redemption'. This is very similar to the Inception as it has one man stood at a long shot. As it the first poster we looked at, the man in the poster is the main character in the film and everything really revolves around him as the plot goes on. The composition of the film is also similar to the first one as the man has his back to us if as we were looking at the poster and the titles is at the bottom. The font is also bold and sharp in terms of fitting in with the rest of the poster because it is a white font. It also has a caption at the top which catches your eye and relates to the film giving you into the plot of the film. It may also have been a quote from the film itself.

The text on the film features the title of the film in the biggest font on the poster, making it eye-catching and memorable, then the caption which is used to make it memorable and then the names of the main actors. I feel this is a key aspect of any big hollywood film as the names of actors are normally well known and work well to attract people to go and spend money viewing the film.

The background of the film makes it to be more attractive and catches the eye of people. As it is quite a bright colour at the top and then gets darker when it goes further down the poster. As it is rain, it is also associated with the type of film that it is and brings out the main character more.

I have also looked at a smaller and less-known UK film poster in Shifty. Obviously as this is a smaller company and director which has released and produced this film, they won't have much money to create a poster. The film was distributed by Metrodome distribution and it cost around £100,000 to create so obviously it is a small independent film company that has produced it and it hasn't got the seemingly 'unlimited' funds that big hollywood films do have. The poster itself has the obvious nature
of a small film company, it is bright with an overall colour of yellow and black which makes the poster stand out, the name of the film is also a big bold font which really dominates the poster. This is because the film doesn't really have any big name characters or actors in it so it doesn't really focus around these but moreo
ver on the actual name of the film and making it eye-catching so it catches people in and makes them want to go and see it. Although it does have something in common with big hollywood films as it has the two main characters as one of the main aspects on the poster in two large images just underneath the title of the film, this shows that having the main characters on the posters is a key part of the poster whether the film is by a big company or a small UK independent one.

In conclusion, I have found from looking at these posters and analysing them, the main thing with making a poster whether it is a hollywood film or one from a small company, is to not go over the top with the poster but make it attractive and eye-catching enough to actually make people go and watch it and more or less 'force' them to go and watch it. You have to think that many people will be queuing up waiting to get tickets for another film or will be passing by the cinema, you need to make sure they spot the poster. The colours need to work together well and you have to think carefully about which particular colours will work together with the pictures and the location of the picture on the poster itself.

Music Research 2

This is another piece of music we have found that could go well with the film as it is a more modern piece of music and as our film is modern this makes it fit well. although this song may not fit in with film as a complete idea.

Music Research 1

This is a piece of music i found on youtube that is non copyrighted and could go well with our film. The style is known as drum and bass, so is modern as well as being well fitted with the film.

Script

Film company Logo Research

The First one we have looked at is the most recognisable and easily remembered film company logo in the world. 'Universal Studies' This is an incredibly simple design with the companies name in Bold letters across a picture of the world. This is in bright-ish colours which makes it easy to remember and recognise in the future after you have seen it once. 'Universal' Is also a very simple name for a film company.

The second one we looked at is one of the most recognised and famous logos in the Film industry. 'Warner Brothers' I have chosen to look at the old style black and white version as this is a simple although well thought-out and effective design which we want to take inspiration from in our film company logo. The logo has big and bold, black letters with the initials of 'WB' which make it a really simple and easy design to remember.

The third one I have looked at is another famous one which has really grown since it has produced the 'Saw' film series. It is very different compared to the first one as it is more complex and takes on a less simple design and it is similar to the films it produces which we also want to take inspiration from. The logo design also has barbed wire wrapped around the bold letters giving it an interesting and original design. Although I don't think this particular logo is as good as the other ones we have looked at, as this is most complex of the logos and will have been the most difficult to design and make.

Paramount is also one of the most famous Film companies and logos throughout the world and it has been altered slightly many times since its formation in 1914. It has a clear and well-noticable logo in the mountain which can be recognised without the name of 'Paramount pictures' or just 'Paramount' on it which is what we want our logo to be like. The logo which we are looking at is also the old black and white version and gives a great, clear outline of the mountain which is the main part of the logo and the bit which is easiest to remember.

They started dating only a few months after meeting, and have been inseparable ever since.

Film Treatment - Unforgettable

Company Name - LKN productions

Film Title - Unforgettable

Film Duration - 5 Minutes

Film Genre - Psychological/Romantic Drama

Film Audience - 15+ Males and Females as a lot of people like watching short films which involve people of a similar age. Also, it has a depressing scene in which some people under the age of 15 may find upsetting. Hence the reason for why we are aiming for people over the age of 15 to watch our film.

Main Characters - Ciaran and Claire.

Other Characters - Tom (Claire's Brother),

Film Certificate - 15+

Basic Plot - The short film involves two main characters, one male and one female of a similar age. We will have a split scene which shows the man on the left screen and the female on the right. It shows them both on the phone, implying that they are talking to each other and planning to meet later that day. They then both begin to get ready and begin their journey to the meeting place following the same route as each other showing how similar they are. It also shows how they do things that are also similar, for example going to the vending machine and buying a drink, which shows them doing it at the same time on the split screen, even though they are not. They also see and talk to people on the way, which means we will need cameo roles to play these parts. We see the Female in the film buying some flowers, which the audience will presume that they are to the male when they meet together although when they do get to the eventual meeting place. It shows the female walking into the screen but the male doesn't. The female then places the flowers on the floor with a card saying 'Miss you Ciaran X' and the audience realises that he died earlier that month and the meet which is being shown by the male is actually a meeting between the couple a year earlier. Giving a massive twist in the ending of the story.

Suggested Elements - Split screen featuring the male in the film on the left screen and then the Female on the right. This will give a unique view in to the short film and will be a very interesting Camera idea which we will look forward to using if we do decide to work with this. We also could work with slow-motion in the final scene as it gives it more effect into how the female feels when it reveals that the man is actually dead.

Movie Analysis

The first idea that we researched was the one that we chose for our 5 minute short film. This video here is the same genre, which is a kind of 'love drama' film. The thing I like the most in this film is the way they communicate by using post-it notes. The female character has earphones in which gives off the feeling that she is only using post-it notes because she is listening to music. At the end of the film you discover that she is communicating via post-it notes because she is deaf. This is interesting because it is an unusual twist.

There are various different types of shots in our film. Some similar to the one I am analysing now. Here is an example of a medium long shot at an eye level angle. These are the shots that our film will mainly involve. There are also various close ups in the film as well as match on action shots.

The photo shown below is the title sequence which we would like to use in our film. I like this because it is very detailed and very well drawn out and reflects how good the actual 5 minute film is.

The sound on this film is both diegetic and non-diegetic. It's diegetic when the man is talking to the woman. And it's non-diegetic as there is music playing in the background which only the viewers can hear. There is music playing through all the way through which only the viewers can hear. The diegetic sounds are when the man is talking to the woman. He can hear is own voice which makes it diegetic. It is still diegetic even though the female character cannot hear him speaking as she is deaf.

The characters wear different items of clothing each time they meet so it gives it a more realistic feeling and it is not repetitive. The man always wears a shirt with the top button undone, which may reflect his personality of being a boring person with no change in his daily routine. The girl on the other hand wears different types of clothing each time they meet. On one day she'll have a skirt and cardigan on, the next some jeans and a top and then on another day she'll be wearing a dress. This could also reflect her personality of being a person that likes change, perhaps.

Evaluation of our Idea - Strengths and weaknesses

The strengths of our film are:

-Very good idea and storyline
-Would work quite well if we film and edit it correctly
-Original idea
-Option of unusual representation of narrative. (We could use split screen or cross-cutting.)
-Unusual twist at the end of the story. This makes it more interesting.
-Only two main characters.

The Weaknesses of our film are:

-Will be quite difficult to film and find good locations to film it.
-Will take a lot of time and effort editing.
-We will need other people who are not in our media group to film as our group contains only males. (we need a female as part of the plot.)
-Some of the scenes we are wanting to film, we haven't found suitable locations yet. (For example, we need one where one character can stand on higher ground than the other.)
-It may take a lot of time as the nature of our plot means we have to film certain scenes twice.

In conclusion, we feel that the idea we have decided to go with is a very good one although it will take a lot of work. But we are prepared to work hard and put enough effort in to make it understandable and to make it work. We feel that the weaknesses here are minor and we are confident that we can find a way to get round them.

Movie Analysis

We decided to use the 1st movie idea we came up with as our movie. This movie idea isn't the same style with the split screen as ours will be if we decide to go with this, but the movie is the same style as our idea. One of the things i like about this movie is the filter they have on the camera. The filter is a slight de-colourised and slight blue tint on it to make the movie have a cold eery feel. this is shown with the screen shot shown below.

There is also slow paced editing at the beginning of the film to show that the mood Is very relaxed and to set the mood as a nice happy mood but just before the mother and child disappears it lingers around to show their importance in the story. It then cuts back to show the sadness and the confusion on the mans face to show that something isn't right.

Another thing which is good on the editing is when the pace changes and goes to a really fast pace editing, this shows the panic and confusion in his life as he realises that his wife is no longer alive. The fast pace is also done with Jump Cuts this makes it more fast to show the panic better. This then builds up and up until he leaves the table cause the panic and reality that has hit him is too much.

At one point of the film there is a close up of the Wife and the Baby showing that they are his family and they are important to the story. This makes the audience realise that these two characters are important and need to be followed by the audience as their roles in the film are of high importance.

Theres also a tracking shot while the man is walking towards his home. This looks very good and done smooth. The shot shows him walking towards his home and slowly tracking towards him to show the happiness on his face as he sees his family waiting at the door for him as he has come home from work.

The sound has 3 songs played throughout the film that are non diagetic. 2 of them set the mood as quite an eery and creepy atmosphere. the other is a happy song played in major key as the man and the woman sit down for dinner to show that the man is very happy to be with his wife but as she disappears this music fades away. Then the sound changes to just the man breathing which makes the audience hear the man's pain.

The genre of the film is a Romantic Drama just like our movie. This is because of the love seen between the Man and the Woman, this shows that they are together and are a family. The twist at the end of the film makes it a drama. The twist is the the mans family died and that he cant cope with it so pretends that he is still with them.

The narrative of the story is the man in the film has lost his wife and child but can't accept the fact that they have both died so he lives his life pretending that they are ok. At the end of the film it sinks in that he is alone and has lost his wife and child this has great effect as there is a close up/extreme close up to show his pain and that he has to realise that he is alone.

There are 3 characters in the short film. There is the man who is the main character in the story. He is a guy who has lost his family, maybe to a tragic accident but you never actually find out how they died. He lives a lie by placing 2 plates at the dinner table and other things like even talking to them. It isn't until the end of the film he realises they're dead. The other characters are the woman and the baby. These characters are very important characters as they aren't actually there they are just a figment of the mans imagination to help him deal with the pain of losing them.

The titles in the movie are very bland, They have a black background with white writing on. Although they are bland they do fit nicely with the type of film as the film is very simple and un-complex this makes the titles fit very nicely with the film.
